On Monday night at knitting I realized that I've been carting around my most recent project in a ziploc bag. While effective, the clear plastic doesn't have an aesthetic befitting the professional indie crafter I'm currently pretending to be. Time to make a new project bag. (At no point did I consider finishing any of my knitting WIPs to free up one of the myriad other bags I already own. I'm not sure what that says about me.)
I've seen plenty of box bags listed on etsy and floating around flickr but I'd yet to see the one for me. You know what I mean, that fabric that just grabs you and screams your name.
Out of the stash came my treasured Kokka scooter fabric. It's a nice medium weight canvas that stands on its own with some fusible interfacing. If I could sew with this fabric exclusively, I would. (Purl Soho has a wide selection and quick shipping.)
I'd never made a box bag before, but after looking over a couple tutorials and realizing that it's just a basic zippered pouch with the ends pinched in, I figured it out on my own. No lining inside, I don't like how they tend to wiggle around and shift. The raw edges were all finished with the serger. If I make another one, I'll add a few more top stitching finishing details on the ends but overall I love it.
Finished size is 8" long, 3.5" wide and 4" tall. Just the right size for two balls of yarn and a colourwork mitten.
When I saw the picture of the bag, I was hoping it was for sale in your store. This would be such a great gift for my friend who loves scooters...it would be great as a travel toiletry bag. But I love that it's a project bag too! You should definitely consider selling these.

Super cute! Girlfriend, you are NOT "pretending"--you're official!
BTW I love the way you place the design so perfectly on all your items.

Very cute, the scooters are adorable. And the box bag looks really sturdy.

Hi, This is an amazing box bag of all I've found while looking for a tutorial it is definitely the sharpest looking. I want to make something like this, probably with oilcloth for my son to store and carry his soccer and rugby boots - any chance you will be doing a tutorial?
