Halloween is coming up next week and I'm reminded of some of my favourite things about this time of year in BC. Usually I'd head out for a walk at night when the air was really crisp and it smelled of wet pavement. Or being out on an afternoon and it smells like someone is burning leaves. Or Halloween in Whistler when you get the first snowfall to the Valley. That is October to me…crunchy leaves and seeing your breath for the first time in months.
It's the 22nd of October and I still haven't put on a coat or a sweater yet in Austin. I think that moment is still a ways away. We're running the A/C in the house. It's October! Apparently this is an unseasonably warm year; temps are 10 degrees F above normal. All the trees are still green. It kills me to say this, but I found myself briefly wishing for a cold snap and a little rain yesterday morning. That feeling was quickly put to rest last night when we went out for a drink on the patio at 8pm and it was still warm out. That is why I love Austin and that's why I'm not too homesick at all.
*photo credit most likely to Andrew Smith at Whistler Blackcomb. Sorry dude - had to poach it
And I thought *I* had adjustment issues experiencing what passes for "winter" in Vancouver! Feeling so "homesick", Heidi told me it snowed at mid-station last week, but Heidi is a notorious liar. :)

I have lived in Texas my whole life and I'm still not used to our late fall. You watch though..one day it will be 80 and the next day it will be cooooold. I just changes really fast.
Thanks for the lil Texas charm! I love it!
